Jack Young, winner of 2019’s Clio Cup title in the UK, is to race a Mégane R.S. in this year’s TCR Europe touring car championship.
The 18-year-old sensation from Belfast will compete in one of two of the Mégane R.S. machines for the Swiss Vuković Motorsport team.
He starred in it last year with two fourth place finishes on his TCR Europe debut at Barcelona, Spain.
That was in between his Clio Cup commitments in the UK. He eventually won the Clio title – the last for drivers in the previous fourth generation model of the car.
For 2020, a new-look Clio Cup takes its place.
Organisation will instead be by Renault Sport Racing direct from its HQ in France, although R.S. Promotions remains the UK promoter for the championship.
Most notably, the championship will feature a new model of Clio – the Clio Cup ‘5’, featuring a 1.3 turbocharged engine producing 180bhp, plus a five-speed sequential (push-pull) gearshift system.
Clio Cup 5 is also priced much less than its fourth generation predecessor (CLICK HERE for details).
Young’s title-winning team from 2019 MRM is one of seven squads to have announced their participation in 2020’s new Clio Cup UK championship which will also switch to the British GT Championship’s weekends as part of a seven-event calendar that will feature three fixtures overseas.
Meanwhile Young’s graduation to TCR Europe makes him the latest top drawer driver to have raced in Clio Cup in the UK to go on to bigger things…
Before him have gone the likes of international and British GT stars Jonny Adam and Tom Onslow-Cole, another current top TCR Europe name Josh Files and British Touring Car heroes such as Colin Turkington, Andrew Jordan, Ash Sutton, Jack Goff and Mat Jackson.
